Singapore-A young man who posted anti-Islamic remarks on Instagram, a social media platform, was sentenced to 18 months of probation on Thursday (June 23).
As part of his probation, Sun Sicong, a 21-year-old Chinese citizen, must stay indoors daily from 10 pm to 6 am for 60 hours of social service.
His parents are also tied for $ 5,000 to ensure his good behavior.
A student at Temasek Polytechnic (TP), a permanent resident of Singapore, pleaded guilty in May for uploading an online statement with the intention of hurting the religious sentiment of others.
He committed a crime between 2018 and 2019.
The ruling considered two other accusations, including one for harassment.
Initially, no police reports were submitted regarding the offensive Instagram posts on Sun’s Instagram account.
The court has heard that Instagram posts will be automatically deleted after 24 hours.
Deputy Prosecutor Senthilkumaran Sabapathy told the court: She talks about her rape trials with her (obscene and obscene) comments. “
Other Instagram users got angry when they saw Sun’s post and replied to him.
Then they referred to a screenshot of his previous anti-Islamic post.
Posts were widespread on the Internet, and police later received 62 reports from the general public who saw the anti-Islamic posts and felt threatened and alert.
In a previous statement, police said in June 2020 that they received “many reports of Instagram users posting insensitive comments and intimidation that could incite violence against the Islamic community.”
Police added that the post contained hatred comments that could hurt religious sentiment.
