SINGAPORE – The Republic should prepare for a possible Covid-19 wave at the end of the year, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said on Wednesday (24 August).

Here are some scenarios outlined by the Covid-19 Multi-Ministry Task Force at a press conference on Wednesday.

1. Singapore manages to avoid waves

This is the best case for Singapore and there is no need to reinstate stricter security controls.

2. The next wave is another Omicron wave

This scenario is good for Singapore, as it has just emerged from an Omicron wave and has good resistance and protection against another Omicron wave, Ong said.

3. Waves from New Variants of Concerns That Can Escape Immunity

This would be the worst case scenario for Singapore. It is therefore important that the Republic is prepared to improve current vaccination coverage and restore stricter safety control measures if necessary.

Mr Ong said: When rules are needed again, we enlist everyone’s help and are confident that the Singaporeans will fill the role. ”
