Bermuda Insurance Company and Reinsurance Company Association [ABIR] Has appointed new leadership to two committees, leveraging the talent of senior management at member companies.
A spokeswoman said: “Jebon Williams of Chub Bermuda has been appointed as Co-Chair of the ABIR Policy Committee, along with Co-Chair of Hamilton Insurance Group General Counsel Jema Carreiro. Williams will replace Edward Michelbi, who moved to the London office of Renaissance. He is Senior Vice President and Chief Risk Officer of Europe.
“The Vice-Chairman of the Policy Board has been appointed by ArchRe’s Jim Paugh. Poe will replace Tim Peckett, who played a part-time role as Arch Re’s Special Counsel.

“The Policy Board will perform valuable work on behalf of ABIR member companies to review Bermuda and foreign insurance regulations, international regulatory standards, Bermuda’s public policy, and US natural disaster policies and regulations.
“There are also leadership changes in ABIR’s diversity, equity and inclusion. [DEI] The Commission has been appointed as the new chair, along with Bill Wharton, Head of Argo Insurance Bermuda. He will take over AIG’s Catherine Duffy and continue to build on ABIR’s commitment to address the issues and opportunities of diversity, equity and inclusiveness.
“ABIR’s Director of Policy and Regulatory, Corporate Secretary, and Data Privacy Officer, Suzanne Williams-Charles, has staff on both the Policy and DEI Committees.”
Marc Grandisson, Chairman of ABIR and CEO of Arch Capital Group Ltd, said:

A spokeswoman said: “Caleiro is the Group General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of the Hamilton Insurance Group. Mr. Carreiro is responsible for Hamilton’s legal, regulatory and governance functions and is a member of the Executive Committee. She came to Hamilton from Partner Re. Prior to that, he was an Associate of Conyers Dill & Pearman Limited, specializing in corporate law with a particular focus on insurance and reinsurance regulatory issues.
“Kaleiro is a graduate of the University of Napier in Scotland and the University of Law in the United Kingdom. She has been co-chair of the ABIR Policy Board for the past two years.
“Williams is a corporate lawyer for Chub Bermuda and its European affiliates. In this position, he oversees all legal matters related to regulatory operations and underwriting support. He came to Chub from AIG and is based in Bermuda. Williams was previously a legal counsel at XL Bermuda. Prior to XL, he also held positions at ASW Law and Olympia Capital. Williams was a child of Bermuda. He also chairs the Coalition for Conservation. Williams is a graduate of the Law Department of Bermuda University, Dalhausie University, and London University City.
“Wharton is Head of Argo Insurance in Bermuda and has over 26 years of industry experience. He joined Argo as Underwriting Manager in 2015. Prior to joining Argo, he was responsible for Asian Financial Lines at Catlin. Prior to that, he was Chief Underwriter of Professional Liability Insurance for XL Group and Vice President of Professional Liability Insurance for XL Insurance in Bermuda. Wharton was at Pittsburgh University. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics.
“Paugh is a legal counsel for Arch Re Ltd. Prior to joining Arch earlier this year, he was a legal counsel for Chubb Bermuda. Prior to working for Chubb, he was a lawyer at the New York law firm O’Melveny & Myers LLP. Poe graduated from Vanderbilt University and George Washington University Law School. “
