ABN Amro experts predict a slight recession by the end of 2022, citing concerns over gas supplies and inflation.

The bank expects the economy to contract from the fourth quarter of 2022 to early 2023. Even with the recession forecast, the growth rate in 2022 should be 4.7% in 2022. By 2023, we expect that figure to drop to 0.5%.

Winter gas shortages, rising energy prices and inflation will affect growth, the bank said. “High inflation and the resulting decline in purchasing power are already reducing consumption of goods,” they said in their latest report on the economy.

The Netherlands is poised to outperform the Eurozone as a whole. “The Dutch economy is in better shape than the countries around us,” the report said. Last week, her GDP growth last quarter beat expectations.

However, some banking experts are calling for a significant rise in interest rates to stem inflation at next week’s European Central Bank meeting, while others say this will slow the impact on the Dutch economy. I am warning you.
