Bermuda Police Services has added an electric vehicle to its fleet.
A police spokesperson said: Members of the Western community may have seen parish officer Donna Desilva performing her mission on the new ECO EV1 vehicle.
“PC Desilva has gained public support and has worked with local ECO Richard Simon to get a new patrol vehicle with a currently recognizable Battenberg design.”
Simon said: “A few years ago, PC Desilva came up with the idea of a vehicle dedicated to Sundi’s local police and proposed turning it into an electric vehicle. She said she would seek community assistance in getting the vehicle. Impressed by her dedication and honesty, I offered one of the ECO EVs at a discounted price.
“It took a while, especially given the months lost in the Covid-19 pandemic, but in the end she got in touch to advise that she had the financial support she needed. I did.
“I’m proud to have played a small role in this effort.”
PC Desilva said: Gree’s initiative has global influence, but it’s very important and definitely not to be missed as being locally recognized. This electric vehicle will enable parish officers to better serve their communities. “
Commissioner Simmons said: “This is a great example of how the community and police work together to address concerns and resolve issues. I am particularly encouraged by the” greening “aspect of this initiative. This gives the Bermuda Police Service the opportunity to explore ways to integrate electric vehicles into vehicles.
“Thanks to PC Desilva and our community partners, well done.”
