Four men were arrested as part of an operation by the National Crime Agency (NCA) in the United Kingdom targeting groups related to truck smuggling of migrants to the United Kingdom.

A 39-year-old man was arrested in Dagenham on Tuesday morning on suspicion of colluding to promote illegal immigration. He is said to be a senior member of the plot.

Meanwhile, a 37-year-old man was arrested in Ilford, and two more men, 36 and 42, were detained at the addresses of Streatham and Leytonstone, also on suspicion of facilitation crimes.

All will be asked by NCA officers.

The arrests were associated with two separate cases in 2019, with a total of 32 migrants found behind the Dutch and French HGVs. Both the driver and another facilitator were later imprisoned in these countries.

NCA investigators believe that members of the group were also involved in arranging trucks loaded onto trucks without the knowledge of the driver.

Tracking devices were attached to the vehicle to find the vehicle before it was placed behind as the immigrants continued their journey to the United Kingdom.

Members of the group are also suspected of having obtained a boat as part of a plan to bring immigrants to the UK via the channel.

Andy Noyes, commander of the NCA branch, said:

About 40 people were arrested last week when NCA police officers joined colleagues across Europe in a series of attacks (NCA / PA).

“Organized immigration crime is a chronic and dangerous threat, and smugglers, whether by boat or car, do not consider the lives of those who try to transport them.

“Putting people on heavy trucks can obscure the problem to the general public, but it’s not too dangerous for smuggled people. Unfortunately, we’ve witnessed the tragic consequences of this.

“We are determined to work with our UK and overseas partners to confuse and dismantle the organized crime groups involved and do everything we can to destroy their business model.”

This is the second major operation in a week carried out by NCA to target suspected smugglers.

Approximately 40 people were arrested on Tuesday, July 5, when NCA police joined colleagues across Europe in a series of attacks targeting a network suspected of taking thousands to Britain in a small boat. it was done.

This kind of operation was said to be the greatest.
