Arsenal have signed a teenage Brazilian forward Markinhos from São Paulo.

The 19-year-old boy has agreed to a “long-term contract” with the Premier League club.

He made his first appearance 33 times during his time in São Paulo and was part of the team that won the Campeonato Paulista in 2021.

Edu, Arsenal’s technical director, told the club’s website:

“At the age of 19, he is still a very young player, so he is a future player.

“We look forward to Markinhos joining us before the season, building his new home and continuing to grow and develop with us.”

Markinhos, whose transfer is subject to the completion of the regulatory process, represents his country at the levels under 16 and under 17.

He will travel to London in the coming weeks and join his new teammates for pre-season training.
