A 60-year-old man was sentenced to 3 years and 10 months in prison for causing a fire in a block of an apartment with several people.

The verdict was passed by the Borgarting Court of Appeal on Thursday and is slightly milder than the ruling received by a man in the Søndre Østfold District Court. There he was sentenced to four years and three months in prison.

On August 9, last year, a 60-year-old boy emptied a few liters of gasoline and set fire to his apartment in Halden. Then he left the building.

Prosecutors have asked the Court of Appeals to uphold the district court’s decision, and the accused has been sued for causing a fire that could lead to guilt and loss of life.

Man’s description

The man said in court that he had worked in the construction industry for several years. He claimed that the fire alarm went off immediately and he believed that no one else would be at risk.

The Court of Appeals did not trust this explanation. The ruling undoubtedly could have easily caused a loss of life to the fire, and the defendant must have been aware of this risk when he himself chose to leave the building. I am saying.
