Beer giant Carlsberg will be conducting the largest test to launch fiber beer bottles across Europe.
Of the group’s new bottles, 8,000 (all fully recyclable) will be sampled by customers in eight markets on the continent, including Poland, the United Kingdom and France. Other European countries that will be tasting beer include Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Germany.
The bottle is made of wood-based fiber shell and contains a lining made of plant-based polyethylene furanoate (PEF) polymer.
Carlsberg argued that all the ingredients were recyclable and that the beer’s “taste and foam” was maintained for the same product in a glass bottle.
The company argued that Carslberg’s new products could stay cold longer than glass, and could accommodate for textile exteriors.
Stephen Munch, vice president of group development at Carlsberg, described the product as a “great achievement” with his partner Avantium, who specializes in renewable chemistry and developed polymer linings, and the outer shell of a bottle-beer. Create a packaging development for.
He states: “Identifying and manufacturing PEF as a competent functional barrier for beer is one of our biggest challenges. Therefore, we get excellent test results and work with our suppliers to fill the line with bottles. It’s a big achievement to make sure that you are doing it. “
He said the bottle is “100% bio-based, except for the caps that are currently needed to ensure product quality,” but plans for an updated Fiber Bottle 3.0 with sustainable plastic caps. I added that there is. It will be delivered in 2023.
Pilots also see beer giants turning their sustainability efforts towards beer. Beer uses barley malt grown using fully organic and regenerative farming techniques in collaboration with barley malt supplier Soufflet.
The news of wood bottles was announced in 2019, and Carlsberg has been working with partners since 2015 to design.
Pilots include efforts to reduce zero-carbon emissions and their “full value chain carbon footprint” by 30% by 2030 prior to the global launch of Carlsberg’s ESG program – Together Towards Zero and Beyond – increase.
