Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed are the two latest big names in the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series.
The Telegraph reports that two heavyweights of gold in the world have signed up for a controversial tour with a spectacular pot of € 235 million in prize money.
Dustin Johnson surprised the golf world this week when he quit the PGA Tour and joined the LIV series. This latest news only adds to the frustration for golf chiefs.
Earlier this week, Johnson wanted to play again in the Ryder Cup, despite being disqualified from resigning from the PGA Tour membership to play the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational Series. I’m out.
Johnson has won all five games with a record 19-9 US victory in Europe last year and will be competing in a bi-annual contest.
Seth Waugh, CEO of the PGA of America, said last year: (PGA) Tour. “
Johnson said: “I have resigned from the tour membership. I will play here. For now, that’s the plan.
“I can’t comment on what the outcome will be or how the tour will handle it. I can’t answer the majors, but hopefully they will be able to play us.
“Obviously I’m exempt from majors, so I’ll play there unless I ask otherwise.
“Everything is subject to change. The Ryder Cup is incredible and definitely makes a lot of sense to me. I’m proud to have played and represented in my country. I hope I have the opportunity to do that again, but I haven’t set any rules. “
The USGA later issued a statement that it would not be “appropriate or fair” to remove qualified players from the field for next week’s US Open due to competition at the Centurion.
In addition, “Our decision on the field of the 2022 US Open should not be construed as the USGA supporting alternative organizations or the actions and comments of individual players.
“Rather, it’s just a response to whether the USGA is considering playing at another event without the consent of the home tour, and it’s a crime that should disqualify the US Open.”
