China and Mozambique are considering deepening military cooperation as the African country battles militants in the gas-rich province of Cabo Delgado.

Bilateral ties in the defense sector were discussed during talks between Mozambique’s Chinese Ambassador Wang Hejun and Mozambique’s Defense Minister Christovan Artur Tzume.

Hejun said China hopes to continue to work with Mozambique to strengthen strategic communication, strengthen equipment and technology cooperation, and expand exchanges in professional fields.

It is said to aim to promote deepening and practical cooperation between the militaries of the two countries, and to constantly enrich the comprehensive strategy of China-Mozambique relations.

Chumeh said Mozambique attaches great importance to developing military cooperation between the two countries.

“Mozambique is willing to continue to strengthen solidarity and coordination with China and actively contribute to the development of bilateral relations between Mozambique and China,” he said.
