BEIJING: China’s independently developed large solar-powered near-space unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) QMX50 has successfully completed its maiden flight in Yulin, northwestern China’s Shaanxi province.

The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) said in a statement on Sunday that the large aircraft is the first high-altitude low-speed UAV with an ultra-high aspect ratio and the first large-scale UAV model with a twin-fuselage configuration. The first large all-electric UAV platform powered entirely by electricity.

For years, China has bet on building a new generation of large UAVs. This is because we see this direction in the future of the future aviation sector, as it can capture the significant financial resources that global airlines currently allocate to operating routes. .
