Singapore: Many people in Singapore have been enthusiastic after Malaysia banned chicken exports from June 1st.Since then Malaysia has Partially lifted the ban Allow export of Live kampong and black chicken. Indonesian sources will start exporting chicken “really soon”.

We seem to have been shocked by turning to frozen chicken and reducing our favorite chicken rice. But the “Great Chicken Crisis” shows that Singapore cannot take food security for granted. That is why the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) wants to produce 30% of its nutrition locally by 2030.

What is one possible way to reach that goal?Alternative protein – plant-based or laboratory-derived Fish, beef, eggs, milk, and yes, chicken versions.

Alt protein is manufactured rather than grown or grown. This means it can be produced anywhere in almost any weather. The starting point for many early adopters of the alt protein is to have an alternative to meat for health, ethical, or environmental reasons.

Their use reduces the intensity of industrial agriculture and the pressure on land and reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Methane from cattle is the second largest source of GHG in the world, accounting for about 20 percent of the total. If cattle are a country, they emit more GHGs than the United States.

Over the past few years, many meat options have hit Singapore’s supermarkets, restaurants and even hawker centers. Both Loo’s Hainanese Curry Rice and Keng Eng Kee Seafood at Tiong Bahru Market held a pop-up to sell dishes made with cultivated chicken earlier this year.

But when it comes to food, cognitive debate is not enough. Alt protein needs to beat the heart, the heart, and most importantly, the stomach. There are three priorities.

“Fake meat” must taste and feel like a real deal

Alt protein needs to taste and feel right. They need to evoke the same emotions as our favorite comfort food and grandma’s classic dishes. The closer they are to the real thing, the more likely they are to be accepted by consumers.

Informal ratings by Singapore students and CNA video journalists are positive as they are almost the same as traditional foods. However, it is unlikely that an isolated opinion will move the needle significantly.
