Shelbourne manager Damian Duff says he is pleased with his side’s display after a 2-0 home defeat to Sligo Rovers on Friday extended them to five league games without a win.

After Shelbourne missed several chances in front of goal before a breakthrough, trikes on both sides of the break by Frank Ryevak and Aidan Keena secured three points for Bit Ored.

The Shells remain in 7th place and will face the Bohemians next door in the FAI Quarterfinals. Duff lamented the way his team conceded his two goals, but praised the elements of his young team’s performance.

“You could argue that they came and got us the job, but I thought we were really good,” said the Shelbourne boss.

“The first 45 minutes was the best I’ve ever played at home. and let’s go again.

“Aidan Keena will probably be the top scorer and get a big deal. You will never win the game.

“It was a killer (Keena goal). We were a young team and I could feel it killed them and deflated them. You have to dust yourself off and go again, and there is so much to be gained from that.”
