The Danish government wants to support the survival of SAS and wants to increase its stake. But it also requires contributions from other parties.
“We are ready to ensure that we still have a significant Danish stake in SAS to help the Danish side forgive debt and carry out plans for SAS to get them back on track. I agree with you, “said Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen.
The airline owes DKK 3.5 billion to the Danish province.
The government has agreed with several Folketing parties to raise Denmark’s stake in SAS to 22-30%. Currently, Denmark and Sweden each own a 21.8% company, but the Norwegian state is selling its stake.
Norwegian position
However, Norway has opened up the corona crisis loan received by SAS in December 2020 to convert it to state-owned stock.
“It’s also important to say that this is not an unconditional contribution,” Wammen added.
Earlier this week, it was revealed that the Swedish state would not provide any more funding to the crisis-stricken company.
SAS was in the process of a comprehensive restructuring plan with significant cost savings and had to cancel 4,000 flights this summer. In addition, the pilot announced a major strike from June 29th. This can affect up to 250 departures daily.
