Emily Eavis appreciates the attendees of the Glastonbury Festival for their efforts in attending the event and believes that “the best people in the world are here”.
The 42-year-old co-sponsor of the event spoke the day after the festival opened for the first time in three years after being canceled twice during a coronavirus pandemic.
This year’s music features headliners Billie Eilish, Sir Paul McCartney, and Kendrick Lamar, with Diana Ross filling the Sunday Teatime Legend slot.

Eavis told the festival’s on-site newspaper, Glastonbury Free Press,:
“The commitment that people have made to us was not taken for granted and it made a lot of sense. I really think the best people in the world come here.
“The band always says that this audience is the most generous, respectful and supportive crowd out there, so we’ve been supported and stuck for the last three years. We would like to thank everyone who gave us.
“And now I hope you all have a really great time.”
Festival attendees are warned at Glastonbury to pack up and wear boots in case of any contingency. There will be light rain showers on Fridays and Saturdays, and even heavier rains on Sundays.
Another railroad strike on Thursday will issue a weather alert as late arrivals could combat travel turmoil.
Having to cancel Glastonbury in 2020 and 2021 was “very sad and very traumatic,” Ebis said.
She added: “I don’t really know when I’ll be back, especially if I cancel, but I couldn’t escape the pandemic – everyone was struck by it to some extent.

“And in the end, this is just a festival. Greater things were happening in the world, but it’s great to be able to reopen the gates and bring people back for pure joy. . “
Participants “may need to evacuate if possible,” according to Met Office meteorologists, as thunderstorms hit much of southern England at the beginning of the second day of the festival. ..
