Beijing, June 20, 2022 (WAM)-Chinese officials issued the first red warning of the year about possible mountain torrents in parts of the country on Sunday, Chinese news agency Xinhua reported.

According to a warning issued jointly by the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Meteorology of China, mountainous torrent disasters are more likely to occur in the northeastern part of Jiangxi Province in eastern China from 8 pm Sunday to 8 pm Monday.

In Zhejiang Province, eastern China, an orange warning was issued because mountain floods are likely to occur in the western part of the region as well.

Local governments were advised to enhance real-time surveillance and flood warnings and prepare for evacuation.

China has a four-layer color-coded weather alert system, with red representing the most serious alerts, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
