Shanghai, June 17, 2022 (WAM)-According to the Chinese news agency Xinhua, China today launched Fujian Province, Shanghai’s third aircraft carrier.
Named after Fujian, this aircraft carrier was designed and manufactured entirely by China.
A new ship was put into the water at the launch ceremony that started around 11 o’clock.
Ryo Xu, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and a vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), presented a naming certificate to naval forces accepting aircraft carriers.
Approved by the CMC, Fujian was given hull number 18.
It is the first domestic carrier in China using catapult. With a displacement of over 80,000 tonnes at full load, this carrier is equipped with an electromagnetic catapult and restraint.
The new carrier will conduct mooring and sea trials as scheduled.
