BEIJING, Aug 27, 2022 (WAM) — China’s telecommunications sector has expanded steadily in the first seven months of the year, according to official data.

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, total industry revenue reached 944.2 billion yuan (about $137.87 billion), up 8.3% from the previous year, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Emerging businesses such as big data, cloud computing, internet data centers, and internet of things expanded rapidly during this period. Emerging business revenues for his three telecom giants in China – China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom – reached his 184.3 billion yuan, up 35.1% year-on-year.

Specifically, cloud computing services revenue surged 131.7% year-on-year, while big data and Internet of Things revenue surged 60.3% and 25.9%, respectively.

In addition, the construction of 5G base stations is progressing smoothly. By the end of July, the number of his 5G base stations in China totaled about 1.97 million.
