Cairo, June 15, 2022 (WAM)-On Wednesday, the European Union signed an agreement between Egypt and Israel to export liquefied natural gas to Europe under the umbrella of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum.
Egyptian Minister of Oil Tarek Al Molla, Israeli Minister of Energy Karine Elharrar, and EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson signed a declaration of intention in Cairo in front of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Under this agreement, Israel will supply gas to neighboring Egypt, where it will be liquefied and exported to Europe.
The Israeli Energy Minister explained that the agreement will work to ensure a stable supply of natural gas from the Eastern Mediterranean region to the EU.
“The EU aims to reduce its dependence on gas from Russia, where supply accounted for 45% of block’s gas consumption last year. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the EU is increasingly using other sources of energy. I’m looking for it, “said the European Commission.
