Krishnan Nayar, New Delhi, 7 September 2022 (WAM) — The Indian Cabinet today approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE on cooperation in the field of education.

“The purpose of the MoU is to further strengthen the ongoing educational cooperation between India and the UAE and broaden the scope of their engagement,” explained the government’s Press Information Bureau (PIB). “The MoU will be signed between the Ministry of Education, Government of India and the Ministry of Education, Government of the UAE.”

A separate MoU in the education sector was signed between India and the UAE in 2015, but expired in 2018.

This will incorporate the changes brought about by the National Education Policy 2020 in the Indian education system. “This Memorandum of Understanding aims to promote academic cooperation between higher education institutions of both countries to exchange information, develop the capacity of teachers in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), and offer twinning, joint and dual degree programs, etc. We have agreed on other areas,” PIB said.

The new MoU will not only facilitate information exchange to facilitate mutual recognition of these qualifications, but also revitalize educational cooperation between India and the UAE and facilitate academic mobility. “Since the United Arab Emirates is a major employment destination for Indians, we also cover our cooperation with TVET.”

The MoU is valid for five years from the date of signature and will be automatically renewed with the consent of both parties. Once signed, the Indian Cabinet has resolved that this MoU will replace his previous MoU signed with the UAE in 2015 and will cease to be in force thereafter.
