Dubai, July 13, 2022 (WAM)-Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed al-Jaber, Minister of Industry and Technology, meets and strengthens Gerd Müller, Secretary of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). We talked. Collaboration to optimize UNIDO’s competitive Industrial Performance (CIP) index.
The discussion supports the objectives of both parties and is in line with the goals of the Global Manufacturing Summit (GMIS), a joint initiative of the Ministry of Industry Advanced Technology (MoIAT) and UNIDO.
The virtual meeting was attended by the Austrian Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, Hamad Ali al-Karbi, and MoIAT’s Deputy Secretary, Omar Ahmed Swina al-Swidy. Participants will help MoIAT achieve its Ninth Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and promote innovation. He emphasized the importance of forming a joint team of UNIDO and UNIDO.
The conference is part of the ministry’s plan to strengthen the capacity and competitiveness of the industrial sector and strengthen relations with relevant regional and international organizations to support the country’s industrial and advanced technology strategies. The conference covered strengthening competitiveness, exchanging industrial information useful for the global value chain, encouraging investment in research and development, and supporting industrial diversification using advanced technologies.
The meeting also touched on the UAE’s contributions and support to the Hydrogen Event on Industrial Day planned at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Egypt. The delegation also discussed the formation of a task force to develop a roadmap to strengthen cooperation in building up to COP28 at the Dubai Expo next year.
The choice to host a conference in the United Arab Emirates represents the international community’s appreciation for the country’s efforts and its active role in combating climate change. This includes environmental protection and capacity building, emission reductions and global warming limits in the area of clean and renewable energy.
UNIDO’s CIP Index benchmarks a country’s ability to competitively produce and export manufactured goods. It provides a graphical summary that captures the competitive performance of each country. The United Arab Emirates is currently ranked number one in the region.
