World Capitals, 07/09/2022 (WAM) — While Ajax and Bayern thrived and Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick, a spectacular host gave Liverpool a run for tonight’s Champions League clash. The shock came in Napoli, who dominated 4-1.
Napoli dominated last season’s runners-up Liverpool 4-1 and showed their intentions for the UEFA Champions League with a superb first-half performance. Ajax also impresses against Rangers, with Robert Lewandowski scoring his first hat-trick for Barcelona. With wins for Bayern, Tottenham, Club Brugge, Sporting CP and Atlético, the match against Porto came to a surprising conclusion.
Lewandowski scored his seventh Champions League hat-trick as he led Barcelona to a comfortable victory. Franck Kessier scored and Lewandowski doubled with a cool finish. A header from Jan Sikora gave the Czech champions hope, but Lewandowski scored a second in stoppage time and a third from the edge of the box midway through the second half. As Barcelona got off to a strong start, he added his fifth minute as Ferran Torres came on as a substitute.
Bayern beat their opponents at home. Leroy Sané opened the scoring midway through the first half by catching Joshua Kimmich’s long ball past Andre Onana. Inter rallied before Bayern’s second home frenzy. There was an element of luck to it as Danilo D’Ambrosio turned into his own net after a great job by Kingsley Coman and Sane.
In another clash, Richarlison’s first goal for Tottenham gave Antonio Conte’s side a winning start against 10-man Marseille.
In Germany, hosts Frankfurt lost 0-3 to Sporting CP. Marcus Edwards was the difference when Sporting CP won Germany for the first time.
Club Brugge beat Leverkusen 1-0. Abakal Silla scored the only goal as Club Brugge overtook Leverkusen. Meanwhile, Abakal his Scilla scored the only goal while club his Brugge overtook Leverkusen.
