Islamabad, 26 August 2022 (WAM) — The government officially declared a “national emergency” on Thursday as heavy rains and floods continue to devastate various parts of Pakistan, ANI news agency reports. rice field.
Rains and floods have so far killed 937 people, including 343 children, and displaced at least 30 million people, according to the latest data from the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA).
An extraordinary increase in rainfall has caused flash floods across the country, especially in southern Pakistan, and 23 districts of Sindh province are still being declared ‘disastrous’.
In the face of devastating floods, Climate Change Minister Sherry Lehman said a “war room” had been set up by NDMA Prime Minister Shebaz Sharif to spearhead relief efforts across the country.
