Government plans to support small business innovation may violate EEA agreements. ESA has launched an investigation.
The scheme is called the Norwegian Catapult and includes a center where companies have access to equipment and technology to develop and test their ideas, products and processes.
“ESA has doubts about the compatibility of its support with the EEA Agreement. It has therefore decided to initiate a formal inquiry procedure,” said a press release from the body responsible for monitoring the EEA Agreement. I’m here.
Norwegian authorities must document that support is within the regulations. It is unclear when the oversight body’s final decision will be ready.
Siva’s communications director, Preben Sandborg Roe, told the NTB that it is in dialogue with the ESA on the issue from 2021.
“I hope that a good solution can be found for Norwegian industry. The debate is about who will own the equipment for the Catapult Center. is,” he said.
“We believe we can have a good discussion on this subject, but we will take this up in our dialogue with ESA,” Røe added.
The Norwegian Catapult was presented as a key vehicle in a 2017 industry report. The tool, managed by Siva, has earned him NOK 784 million from the national budget since 2017.
