Hollywood actor Ewan McGregor has said he is “extremely excited” to be starring in the British drama series adapted from the best-selling novel by Amor Towles.
The 51-year-old Scottish star will lead the cast as Count Alexander Rostov and will also serve as executive producer for the Paramount+ series titled Gentlemen of Moscow.
Set in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution, McGregor’s character escaped immediate execution but was exiled by a Soviet court to the attic of the opulent Hotel Metropol, where he was threatened with death if he ventured outside.
The series sees decades of Russian history unfold outside the door of a hotel as characters build new lives and discover the values of friendship, family and love.
“It’s an amazing story and I’m so excited to play such a great role,” McGregor said.
The series, an adaptation of Taurus’ best-selling novel written by showrunner and executive producer Ben Vanstone, is slated to begin production later this year.
McGregor most recently appeared in three Star Wars prequels from 1999 to 2005, reprising the role of Star Wars favorite Obi-Wan Kenobi in the self-titled Disney+ TV series for nearly two decades.
A Gentleman In Moscow will be available exclusively on Paramount+ in the UK in 2023.
