Fiona O’Carroll has confirmed that a brand new series of Mrs. Brown’s Boys will air next year.
He loved RTÉ and the BBC sitcom, created and starred by Fiona’s father Brendan O’Carroll, aired for three seasons from 2011 to 2013, but the franchise lived on with live tours, holiday specials, movies and musicals. I’m here.
And for the first time in almost a decade, the show will return next year as a miniseries, along with two new Christmas specials.
Fiona, 41, who plays Maria Brown on Mrs Brown’s Boys, told RTÉ Guide: Year.
“We have live shows at the SSE Arena in Belfast and the 3Arena in Dublin in November, with more theaters planned for next year.”
The Mrs. Brown’s Boys comeback was originally scheduled to take place this year, but Covid restrictions and scheduling issues delayed production.
Fiona previously spoke about the difficulties the team faced in trying to get the ball rolling in the new series.
Speaking to Ireland AM earlier this year, she explained:
“We were planning to do a mini-series this year, but unfortunately it didn’t happen for various reasons.
“So there’s talk of a possible miniseries next year. It’s not just up to us, it’s down to studio time, staff and cast.
“It’s not just about us, it’s about studio time, crew and cast.

“Due to the coronavirus, it’s a very turbulent time, with a huge backlog of orders, and all artists and productions fighting for time and space.
“It’s hard to make stuff and get slots. Yes, there is talk, but I don’t know if it will happen.”
