IMOPETRO board members confirmed that the bidding process complies with international rules and procedures similar to those specified in World Bank guidelines, such as IBRD loans and procurement under IDA credits. ..

“The selection criteria for the next entity responsible for fuel imports are the highest prices, safety and reliability,” he said.

Mozambique will import a total of 575,000 metric tons of fuel to ensure that the country’s needs are met during the three months in question.

“We plan to import 150,000 tons of gasoline, 400,000 tons of diesel and 25,000 tons of gas, and these refined petroleum products will be distributed from the ports of Mapt, Beira, Nacala and Pemba,” he said. I did.

All liquid fuels (diesel, gasoline, aviation fuels) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG – cooking gas) sold in Mozambique are imported by special freight carriers at sea.

This process is centralized by law to IMOPETRO, a single entity owned by petroleum product distributors operating in the country.

Macandja believes that rising charter prices on ships will push the amount paid in the coming months from $ 200,000 to about $ 600,000, reflecting the volatility registered in the fuel market.
