Singapore: Workers’ Party MP Jamus Lim (Sengkang GRC) will stay in the United States for three weeks to attend a summer fellowship at Stanford University.

During his absence, former WP chiefs Low Thia Khiang and former Hougang MPPng Eng Huat will be responsible for Lim’s constituency in his Anchorvale district.

Associate Professor Lim will leave for California on Monday (July 18) and return to Singapore on August 8, a WP spokesman said.

A spokesperson said Mr. Law would cover the Estate Walk and Mr. Png would cover Associate Professor Lim’s responsibilities at the Meet-the-People (MPS) session at Anchorbert.

Mr. Law was in Anchorbert for an estate walk on Tuesday morning.

“Before his departure, Jams had doubled on his home visit, and will double to stay on schedule on his return,” said a spokesman.

“He remains available to effectively attend other responsibilities as a member of parliament, such as a city council meeting.”

Mr. Lo (65) and Mr. Png (60) retired from politics in 2020 and did not challenge the last general election.

Associate Professor Lim announced his trip to the United States on Facebook on Monday night and said he was grateful for the support of Mr. Law and Mr. Pung.

“In the coming weeks, we will temporarily take over the responsibility of # Sengkang GRC to the two former MPs. Png Eng Huat and Low Thia Khiang have generously provided (retired) time. Reliable. #TeamSengkang As a volunteer.

“Both gentlemen have previously helped with #Anchorvale, and I am grateful for such competent and experienced support.”

Lim, an associate professor of economics at ESSEC Business School’s Singapore campus, will be attending the Draper Hills Summer Fellows program in Stanford.

According to the Standford website, the program is a forum for mid-career practitioners in law, politics, government, private sector, civil society, and international development to exchange experience and receive academic and policy training.

Parliamentarian Sengkang will return on the night of August 8 and head for his MPS session shortly after, WP said.

Associate Professor Lim wrote on Facebook: “I’ll be back in time for National Foundation Day and related festivals, and I’m looking forward to catching up with our inhabitants!”

Following Raeesah Khan’s resignation last year, Sengkang GRC has three members, including HeTing Ru and Louis Chua.
