They say adversity creates creativity. That maxim certainly applies to restaurants in Reykjavik. It was a slim choice when we first started summarizing the issue of Best of Reykjavik, but over the years, decision making has become less and less easy. This was really one of the most difficult dining editions we could put together, as we were content with the choice in terms of both quality and consistency. Old and new restaurants have post-pandemic energy and we are pleased to decorate their tables again. We chopped, chewed, and devoured around this wonderful city in the name of bringing you the best Reykjavik has to offer.

Kuku’s Nest

Coocoo’s Nest continues to be the most brunched brunch in town. The award-winning sourdough helps serve as an avocado toast that breaks your bank account, or simply with an omelet that gives you six, under a poached egg soaked in silky Hollandaise sauce. We are children, but only partially. It’s popular for a reason, so it’s best to make a reservation. Psst, they also offer a brunch menu on Fridays!
runner up:
Klambrar bistro

If you’re one of the crazy nose of the bottomless brunch that dominates this city, you might nudge you towards Klambrar Bistro. Set in a gorgeous art gallery dedicated to the work of renowned painter Kjarval, this sunny and soothing restaurant offers an affordable, hype-free brunch. Vegan chicken and waffles are especially popular, and the open courtyard and space with access to the art room are child-friendly. On sunny weekends, this is a well-maintained secret place.
Rookie:
Brut

Despite their popularity, town weekend brunch tends to be quite a cookie cutter in their offering. Brut brings Reykjavik a Scandinavian distorted brunch. This brunch is light, colorful and very satisfying. Delicately dressed piles of salads, softly pouched fish, chunks of cheese, whole pies and cakes make up a variety of items. It’s a nice space, but it’s laid out like a treasure hunt. Nevertheless, this is the branch Reykjavik has been waiting for.
