June 17th marks the 78th year of Iceland’s independence from the filthy Danes traveling south.

The day is full of parades, events and celebrations. The schedule may seem a bit daunting at first, but rest assured that we’ll help you get the most out of your National Day celebrations.

First of all your clothes. You have to get out of everything and be completely submissive to Iceland. Draw yourself like an Icelandic flag, speak only whales, and wear the biggest and best Viking helmets.

The festival begins at 11:00 and is hosted by the Prime Minister of Austurvellir with a serious and solemn ceremony. But following this serious thing is when the real fun begins.

The rest of the day is a resilient castle, a car show, live music, a dance class, basically anything you can imagine in the sun (midnight).

The official Icelandic National Foundation Day parade will march down Skólavörðustígur from 13:00. Frankly, it’s a good idea to get your family and friends together to start a rival parade. Lúðrasveit Verkalýðins You can also give amicable competition to brass bands and secret special guests.

Personally, I will be attending Beyonce and Britney’s pop dance class at 14:30, so feel free to join us.

Obviously, after spending a day in the city center with a fuss, you need to finish the day with Icelandic beer.
