Faxaports is currently working with a foreign company to build an electric fuel station in Grundartani for use by ships during the voyage, RÚV reports.

“There is a big milestone next month when the largest land station in Thunderbacky will be up and running,” said Gunnar Tryggvason, Deputy Port Director of Faxaports. “This is for the Eimskip cargo ship, the largest cargo ship in the country.”

Faxagarður’s old port station for small cruise ships may begin operations next summer.

“We are looking for a very large ship station, which is an investment close to a billion and means a relatively large construction project,” says Gunnar.

In the future, more projects and initiatives are expected to come, such as changing tariffs on more eco-friendly vessels at lower prices than other vessels.
