Berry picking is a traditional end of summer activity in Iceland. Here are all the words and phrases you need to know to participate in this fun tradition!

Berjamo – Berry Picking, Literally ‘Berry Moor’
Frábært veður! – Great weather
Blurber – Blueberry
Krækiber Crowberry, literally “hookberry”
Hrútaber – Rubus saxatilis, stone bramble, literally “ramsberry”
Skollareipi – berry stalk, literally devil/boogeyman’s rope
Tröllareipi – berry stalk, literally “troll’s rope”

Be careful when looking for berries and other edible plants. Do not eat anything you are not sure of identification.
