Last weekend, the municipality of Strandir hosted an Icelandic ram palpation competition, reports RÚV.

Gunnar Steingrímsson of the Stóra-Holt farm is the new champion. His 15-year-old Marino Hergi Sigurdsson from Holmavik was his second. He is the youngest ever Icelandic player to achieve such a result.

The tournament will be held for the first time in two years. 2020-2021 has been canceled due to the pandemic. The event attracted over 300 of his guests at the Sævangur Sheep Breeding Center.

Ram palpation, also called groping, is the process of checking a ram’s testicles to determine their health for breeding. It is common among breeders.

The 2022 Icelandic Ram Palpation Competition had 35 participants in the hobbyist category and 17 in the amateur category. Three women led in her amateur category. Elín Þóra Stefánsdóttir from Bolungarvík, Katrín Jónsdóttir from Eyjafjörður and Bjarnheiður Fossdal from Strandir.
