Singapore: Treasury Minister Lawrence Wong said he would “do his best” to serve Singapore after it was announced that he would be promoted to Deputy Prime Minister on June 13.
This move is part of a cabinet reshuffle announced by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Monday (6 June).
Earlier this year, Mr. Wong was nominated as the leader of the People’s Action Party (PAP) 4th generation or 4G team, paving the way for Singapore’s next prime minister.
“When my colleague asked me to lead a 4G team, I said I would take on what could be the biggest responsibility in my life,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Monday.
“As I said before, I will do my best and do my best to serve Singapore and the Singaporeans.
“This time, I seek your support as I take on my recent appointment as (Deputy Prime Minister) and take another step forward to accept my new responsibilities.”
Mr Wong will continue to hold his financial portfolio, the PMO said. He will join Heng Swee Keat, who resigned as leader of the 4G team last year, and will be one of the two deputy prime ministers.
“I am looking forward to traveling with you on this journey and working with you. A new path to overcome many of the challenges we face today and move forward together for a better tomorrow. To open up, “Won said.
