On July 13, 2022, the Federal Office of Food Safety and Veterinary Medicine (FSVO) in Switzerland recommended not to consume certain Haagen-Dazs ice cream products.

Products include Haagen-Dazs Vanilla Pint 460 ml, Haagen-Dazs Vanilla Mini Cup 95 ml, Haagen-Dazs Vanilla Collection 95 ml x 4, Haagen-Dazs Classic Collection 95 ml x 4. These products may contain ethylene oxide, ether. It is toxic to living things.

FSVO has asked retailers to exclude these products from sale. Brand owner General Mills has also discontinued the product. The warning applies to all listed products with an expiration date prior to May 21, 2023.

The product was distributed by Manor, Aldiro, ALDI SUISSE, Coop, Gate Gourmet Catering, Globus Delicatessa, Migros Outlet, Otto’s AG, Radikal, PAM 13, and many restaurants and catering companies.

Ethylene oxide is used as a surface disinfectant and is widely used in hospitals. It has irritating and narcotic effects and may be carcinogenic.
