Kuwait: The 38th Gulf Handball Cup Winners Tournament kicked off Saturday at Sheikhsard Al Abdala Hall, a complex with the host (Kuwait Sports Club) who defeated the Muscat team 28-18. In previous matches, Al Ahli (Qatar) beat Al Jazeera (UAE) 28-26. Both matches are from the first group. In the second group, the Mudar Club (Saudi Arabia) defeated Kuwait’s Salmiya Club 26-21.

The goalkeepers of the Kuwait and Mudar clubs helped ensure victory. Hassan Safar and Abdelmalek Salahji have been named Best Players for their efforts. In the third round of qualifying on Monday, Oman vs. UAE Al Jazeera will appear at 5 pm. Following this, Bahrain’s Arnajima and Saudi Arabia’s Mudar will face each other.

Sea One retires

The first day of the tournament was marked by the official retirement declaration of national team player Hussein Sea One, who retired 20 years later on the court. He won many tournaments while playing for Sulaibkhat, Qurain, Kuwait, Arabi, Qadisiya, Salmiya and Burgan. He also played for Al Sadd in Qatar.

The retirement match was sponsored by Parliamentary Vice-Chair Ahmad al-Shuhomi and attended by Sports Civil Service President Humoo Freite and Kuwait Club President Khalid Al-Ganim. Al-Shuhoumi praised Hussein Seewan’s performance.

Meanwhile, Kuwait Sports Club President Khalid Arganim welcomed the participating teams in Kuwait. “We are very pleased with this gathering and wish all of them good luck,” he said. Arganim said the Kuwait club’s handball team is aiming to win the Gulf tournament despite fierce competition.
