It wasn’t the first time customers were shocked by the prices of hospital food.

Staff at Singapore General Hospital posted on social media last month that the cooked rice they ordered at the Outram Community Hospital food court cost S$6.70.

After the 20% employee discount, the customer ended up paying S$5.40 for the meal, which included a ‘spoon-sized’ pork chop.

Netizens wondered why hospital meals are so expensive. exclaimed user Simon Goh.

“It has to be like this family has to come and visit or stay overnight and eat there. ,” noted another netizen, comparing Singapore to other countries.

“Unlike other countries, hospital meals will be cheaper so that families can afford to take care of the sick and buy food in hospitals.”

Facebook user Lim Thomas said, “Now is the time for the government to put up FOD (Food Overcharge Department) to catch all these suckers.

“Otherwise, more and more (these) suckers have come out. Why don’t you care about hawkers and food courts? Finally tell me if the rent is high or if you want it yourself.”/TISG
