Tánaiste Leo Varadkar reveals that Ukrainian refugees have moved to a house shared with his longtime partner Matt Barrett, “going well.”
A few months ago, r Balladkar revealed that his partner had made an accommodation pledge through the Red Cross portal to accommodate refugees fleeing the war-torn Ukraine.
He today revealed that refugees have recently moved to a three-bedroom home in Dublin 8.
“It’s working very well, she’s an individual,” he said at Talk Radio’s Pat Kenny Show.
“That’s what Matt and I wanted to do, but we couldn’t do that in the past because we were in the apartment. The second bedroom was effectively our storage space, but the house Now that we have, we can help and will gladly do so
“I really feel what the Ukrainian people are experiencing. This is a small thing we can do to help and we are happy to do it,” he added.
Mr. Balladkar said Barrett had registered their home to provide a spare bedroom for at least six months.
Despite more than 25,000 accommodations provided through the portal, the result is more than 1,300 people.
The government hopes to accept an additional 6,000 refugees by the end of summer through a pledge of accommodation.
Since the beginning of the war, more than 35,000 Ukrainian refugees have arrived in Ireland.
