Idris Elba said it “felt special” to bring the ‘Beast’ premiere to the neighborhood he grew up in, saying it went “from Hackney to Hollywood.”
The 49-year-old actor stars in a new thriller about a father and his two teenage daughters who are hunted by lions while vacationing in the Savannah.
Elba returned to South Africa to shoot his blockbuster after filming the drama Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom in South Africa in 2013.
He told PA News Agency:
“I love my country. I love that part of the world. I have a very special love for it.”
Luthor’s star, who plays Dr. Nate Daniels in The Beast, attended the premiere at the Hackney Picture House on Wednesday and was supported by guest stars, including British rapper Stormzy, who he hugged upon arrival.

In Beast, the recently widowed Elba character returns to South Africa, where he first met his wife, and visits an animal sanctuary when his family is attacked by a large cat.
