The United Nations estimates that 1 billion (or 15%) of the world’s 7 billion people have some form of disability. One million of these individuals are in the Caribbean.

This is according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.

People with disabilities face many barriers in accessing inclusive education, employment and community participation. These barriers are often attitudinal, but can also be intentional, physical, or financial, and solutions must consider access, participation, and support.

Locally, Inclusion Cayman is a key ally in ensuring that people with disabilities are accepted, valued and their human rights of inclusion are not violated by systems that marginalize, segregate and exclude them.

This charitable non-profit organization helps individuals with disabilities and their families access a meaningful and inclusive life. It provides family advocacy and supports comprehensive education, recreation, and employment through various forms of professional development and on-the-job coaching.

The team works with multiple schools, recreation/leisure providers and employers to ensure that all individuals have access, participation and belonging to a wide range of peers.

Their inclusion specialists and facilitators work with community members to develop inclusive policies and procedures and adopt inclusive practices to build inclusion capacity. These services are provided free of charge to all participants and are customized for each site.


Many people with disabilities are often overlooked in many employment opportunities.

Inclusion Cayman facilitators work with employers to create real paid jobs for people with disabilities, giving not only people with disabilities in the workplace but also their colleagues and employers the resources, expertise and Provide workplace support. TheRotary Employment Partnership leverages networks within Rotary to create pathways for people with developmental disabilities into the workforce.


According to the organization, children with disabilities in the Cayman Islands are often placed in special education schools or support units without access or consideration of other options. It often takes place in the family, or at different times in a child’s educational career.

Inclusion Cayman specialists work with educators, leaders and decision makers in mainstream K-12 schools, where teams of teachers and leaders use evidence-based practices to empower every child. They provide practice-based coaching, resources, professional development assistance, collaborative policy development, and encourage high-leverage, inclusive practices across the school.


Inclusion Cayman supports recreation and leisure providers and families and partners to ensure that everyone can access and participate in these activities.

Inclusion Cayman supports two grassroots inclusive initiatives: Youth for Inclusion and Parental Inclusion Network. These initiatives work from both top-down and bottom-up approaches to address systemic barriers that prevent access to a meaningful and inclusive life.
