Indonesia confirmed its first case of monkeypox in a local man who had recently been abroad, and authorities announced they would distribute the vaccine and increase testing services for suspected cases.
A 27-year-old man from Jakarta tested positive with mild symptoms and is being quarantined at home, said Ministry of Health spokesman Mohammad Syahril. He is known to have traveled to one of 89 countries, he said, but did not specify.
The government will provide 10,000 doses of vaccine to monkeypox patients and their close contacts, Syahril said. As many as 1,200 reagents will be distributed to hospitals across the country for PCR testing of suspected cases, he said. The ministry said he will have 10 more labs available to test his PCR samples for monkeypox, out of two currently.
