Instagram has told users that it is “investigating” the alleged suspension from the platform.

Social media app users around the world are reporting that their profiles are inaccessible and instead they are seeing messages that their accounts have been suspended from the platform for 30 days.

DownDetector, a service status monitoring website, records thousands of users reporting problems.

In a tweet from its official Instagram communications account, the Meta-owned company said:

“We apologize for the inconvenience. We are investigating.”

The company has yet to provide details on what caused the unusual issue.

Some users who still have access to the platform have reported a significant drop in follower count as accounts suspended due to the issue disappeared from the site.

Last week, competitor WhatsApp suffered an outage that took the hugely popular messaging platform offline for about two hours.
