Ukraine returned to leveling within two minutes of the restart when Yarmolenko won James McLean’s half-yard and striker Dovbyk crossed low to a distant post where he tapped the home without hesitation.
In the first half, Kelleher and Alan Browne denied Mikolenko within seconds of being played by Mikola Matviyenko, and it was the Republic that took the lead in a surprising way 14 minutes before the break.
Central defender Nathan Collins cut Shaparenko’s pass, skipping three challenges and stabbed Riznick forward.
