Low-cost carrier easyJet has announced that it will further abandon flights from Skipol in July and August following the airport’s decision to limit passenger numbers during peak season.

The airline said it expects to be able to rebook the majority of passengers on another flight within 24 hours. Details of the affected departures will be published later in the week.

Skipol said last week that it would limit the number of passengers leaving the airport to 67,500 a day from July 7th and 72,500 in August. An average of 13,500 passengers are canceled daily, but even more during peak days in late July.

EasyJet had already canceled a number of flights between Amsterdam and London’s Gatwick and Luton airports due to heavy congestion.

CEO Johan Lundgren said he would like to give passengers time to change their plans before the measures are implemented. “The majority of our customers are unaffected,” he said.

Dutch flag carrier KLM, Schiphol’s largest customer, said it plans to limit summer ticket sales rather than canceling flights.

The airline said there was no need to shorten the schedule as many transfer passengers are less susceptible to the shortage of security guards.

“We believe that limiting the sale of new tickets from Skipol this summer is sufficient to accommodate the required reduction in the number of passengers boarding the airport,” said a spokesman. .. “There is no need to cancel existing reservations on a large scale.
