Singapore-Seletar Airport has resumed commercial flights for the first time in more than two years as another step towards normalizing the aviation sector.

Fireflies operate four daily flights, two in each direction between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

After the Covid-19 pandemic, flights to Singapore were suspended on March 16, 2020.

Prior to the pandemic, there were six daily flights between Seletar Airport and Sultan Abdul Azizshire Airport.

Firefly CEO Philip Sea said at a press conference at Seletar Airport that airlines plan to increase the number of flights through the route by the end of this year if demand recovers. .. Prior to the pandemic, about 50% to 60% of seats on this route were full.

She said the relatively small size of both airports makes immigration and boarding faster than larger airports, making them an important air travel option for both leisure and business travelers.

Travelers can leave Kuala Lumpur’s home and arrive at their Singapore residence within three hours using a firefly flight, saying, “This is a very important suggestion for time-conscious corporate passengers and leisure travelers. “.

Regarding whether the labor shortages observed at some airports could hinder the operation of fireflies, Mr. Shi said: Very easy.

“There aren’t really the complex issues found at major transportation hubs such as Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Changi Airport.”

Before considering expanding the network between Singapore and Malaysia, Mr. Shi said airlines will first focus on expanding the Seletar-Suban route.

Other routes that the airline will evaluate in the future include the route between Changi Airport and Penang, which is not yet on the card, he added.
