Ciara Mageean has broken the Irish 1500m record to win gold at the Diamond League in Brussels.

Mageen’s time of 3:56.63 broke the previous record set by Sonia O’Sullivan in 1995.

The down women saw off Team GB’s Laura Muir in 2nd place, while Ethiopia’s Freweini Hail came back in 3rd place.

Muir rejected McGeehan’s gold medal at the European Athletics Championships in Munich last month.
