Police have arrested a 51-year-old man for driving twice onto a street terrace in the Zeeland resort of Renesse in the early hours of Wednesday.

A woman was injured in the incident and had to be treated by paramedics. Police said the man got into an argument with a bar staff member, got into the car and drove his car onto the terrace twice.

After police gave chase, he got out of the car and approached the officers with what appeared to be a knife. Officers then used tasers and pepper spray to subdue him.

The bar owner told local newspaper PZC that the problem started when a man got into an argument with a bouncer at another bar across the road. “Our bouncers and their guards tried to calm him down, but he went completely berserk,” he told the newspaper.

Shortly thereafter, the man drove onto the terrace. “It would have been worse if we hadn’t let everyone in and locked the door,” said the owner.
