A virtual choir of 95 singers will perform the theme song Stronger Together for this year’s National Day Parade (NDP) as part of the parade and ceremony segment.
According to the NDP 2022 Organizing Committee, the performance will be pre-recorded for the show.
President Halimah Yacob, who visited the choir during a recording session at Nisun Camp on Tuesday (June 7), said the group was embracing inclusiveness.
Participants have different abilities in all areas.
The choir includes students from the Special Needs Education School.
“We include them as seen by all Singaporeans, and that’s how we create support for people with disabilities,” said Madame Harima.
She added that the involvement of the virtual choir in the parade and ritual segments will integrate the physical and virtual elements of the NDP.
This is the first time that a virtual choir has been included in that segment of the show.
“This year’s NDP will be very exciting. It’s after a very modest celebration of two years … staying in peace and celebrating National Foundation Day on this scale. I am grateful to be able to do this, “says Madame. Harima.
The choir includes SG Enable singers serving people with disabilities, Lily Goh, a practitioner of the arts and music of the hearing impaired, and Voices of Singapore Children’s Choir.
There are performers of the Special Education Choir, which consists of students from the Association of Special Needs (APSN) Chaoyang School, APSN Katong School, and Passlight School.
Students from Boonley Middle School and Manjusli Middle School also participate in the choir, as well as members of Singapore’s leading semi-professional choir, the Graduate Singers, at international events.
Strong Together is composed by songwriter Don Richmond and sung by Singaporean idol winner Taufik Batisa, who last performed the National Day theme song in 2005.
The NDP 2022 Organizing Committee has previously stated that after a two-year small celebration, this year’s goal is to fill almost every seat on the Marina Bay Floating Platform.
The venue can accommodate up to 26,000 people on the stand.
