Schools where staff have forced their parents to come out as homosexuals will not be prosecuted for violating discrimination.
The prosecution (OM) said the Gomalus school community in Gorinchem changed its policy as the 2016 incident came to light and no longer discriminated against students based on their sexual orientation.
After a former student told the NRC that his parents were threatened to declare sexuality, a criminal investigation was launched in a junior high school of 1,700 students working with a strict Protestant Reformed Church.
According to the newspaper, at least one student reached a settlement with the school after threatening to take legal action in the way the school treated her.
When the revelation came to light, it was blamed in parliament and MP Peter Kwint of the Socialist Party (SP) described the school’s actions as “state-sponsored child abuse.”
Judicial authorities have found that schools have violated the law by forcing children to reveal their sexual orientation and using outdated rulebooks that incite discrimination against them.
An OM spokesman said: “Since 2016, the investigation team has not been informed of the new case and the school has amended its policy.” He ordered the affected people to prosecute the court if the citizens disagreed with it. He added that the decision can be challenged through the procedure of Article 12 that can be done.
